In my late 30s, I was experiencing my second 'ancient art pursuit boom'. I would go to Kyoto/ Nara to see the paintings and Buddha statues of Heian to mid-Edo period. I traveled on overnight bus to save my time and
expenses -- I tried to sleep on the bus, but couldn’t because of the random vehicle vibration. Then, I came up
to an idea of picturing my images in my semiconscious mind. Those of large scale works are the extent of the
images came into my mind then. I assimilated the decorative patterns of ancient arts (mostly ancient Buddhist paintings) as the backgrounds. 'Humankind and Time' is the theme of this series.
